If you don’t know, my husband plays ice hockey.
Also, we live in Texas.
So it’s a little strange down here.
This past weekend my husband played in a hockey tournament, and my friend and I joked about how you could point out the new hockey girlfriends.
Mostly because they are dressed for outside of the rink, and not inside.
Trust me on the fact that when we first started dating the men in our lives, we made these fashion mistakes too.
If you find yourself dating a hockey player, let me give you some tips:
The rinks are cold. I mean it’s literally a building full of ice.
That cute short-sleeve top and shorts that you look so good in, don’t wear it. Trust me.
I used to do this, and then freeze my butt off the whole game.
My outfit of choice is a sweatshirt and workout leggings with tennis shoes
You still look somewhat cute without freezing to death.
If you’re going out afterwards, just bring a change of clothes with you.
It smells. Oh, does it smell.
I honestly don’t know if the men are nose blind to this or what, but the smell of
sweaty men will hit you like a ton of bricks when you walk into the rink.
Don’t worry girl, you become nose blind too.
Just try not to walk in and out too much.
It just keeps hitting you every time you walk in.
Bring a Blanket.
Yes you look weird walking into somewhere with a blanket,
especially during the summer in Texas, but you need it.
I used to not bring one, and once I started, it was life changing.
Just go buy yourself one of those $5 ones at Walmart and claim it as your hockey blanket.
Most men take forever in the locker room afterwards
The girls and I had a long conversation about what the heck our guys are doing in the locker room.
Sometimes it’s a solid 45 minutes before they come out.
It’s ridiculous, and you eventually get used to it.
Be ready to invite other GF’s to sit with you
This is a thing. We broke the rules this weekend, and we were chastised for letting her sit by herself.
(I want to point out that we weren’t being rude. She came in late,
and we are all socially awkward, so we didn’t know what to do)
Best thing about this though is that you will meet some of the best ladies this way.
Get ready to have the time of your life.
Hockey is quite the sport.
I never paid attention to it as a kid, but my mom and her whole side of the family are die hard Red Wings Fan’s.
From fights, to penalties, and drinking contest, Hockey is just something else.
The best part about it is that it will also bring you an amazing family.
That family just happens to include a member that always brings Jello Shots.
Like I said if you find yourself dating a Hockey Guy, put your seat belt on honey and get ready for the ride of your life!
